Cindi Lane, APR, FDOT District 5 Public Information Director, Florida
Department of Transportation, Volusia/Flagler Chapter
Class of 2016
“One of the best things about FPRA is you’re never alone in your
leadership journey – you’re inspired by a huge network of talented
peers and supported by a dedicated State Board and professional staff.”
Leadership Path: “Due to an illness and a move that created serious challenges
for our Chapter board in 2016, I was named president shortly before the start of the
program year – without having a year as president-elect. At Summit that August,
while I was being recognized as part of the Joe Curley Rising Leader Class, State
Board members coached me through how to recruit a board! I will never forget the
dedication of those members who worked together tirelessly to rebuild our Chapter,
with the support of leaders from other chapters who carried us through that tough
time. My roles since then have included VP of member services, immediate past
president, VP of 昀椀nance, and senior advisor (current). I apply the wisdom I have
gained in board leadership every day in my professional position as PIO Director for
the Florida Department of Transportation District Five, which covers the nine counties
of Central Florida.”
Zoe Linafelt, APR, Director of Communications, Ounce of Prevention
Fund of Florida, Capital Chapter
Class of 2016
“Being a leader means listening respectfully to everyone’s needs and
setting the healthiest, strongest path forward for the group. It means never
leaving anyone unheard or left behind. It means identifying and encouraging the unique
strengths of each person in the group toward our common goals.”
Leadership Path: “Since being recognized, I have served as chapter director
of communications & PR, secretary, director of programming president-elect,
president and immediate past president.”
Sharon Kunkel, APR, CPRC, President, Wordslinger Marketing & PR,
Central West Coast Chapter
Class of 2017
“Being named our chapter’s Joe Curley Rising Leader wasn’t just a
great honor — it challenged and inspired me to be more, in our chapter
and in my profession.”
Leadership Path: “I served for three years as VP of communications and then
stepped back — to make room for others to rise — into more targeted roles, heading
up media relations, newsletter and other communications-related responsibilities.
This year, since I 昀椀nally earned my CPRC last year, I decided I’d like to try to work
in the credentialing space and became the co-director of credentialing… My own
employment hasn’t changed, although the level of con昀椀dence I have in work has
increased exponentially, thanks in great part to the opportunities available through
CWC-FPRA.”
